4. GENERAL SPORTS RULES
- Settlement of our sports markets is governed by the following conditions, except where the rules relating to a particular sport or market provide otherwise. Where there is a conflict between the following conditions and a particular individual sports rule, the individual sports rule prevails.
4.1 EVENT NOT TAKING PLACE OR ON WHICH THERE IS NO PLAY FOLLOWING PLACING OF BET
- Any bet, open or closed, which is: (i) on an event which does not take place; or (ii) on an event which has begun but in which there is no further activity after the bet is placed, shall be void.
4.2 SUSPENSION
- Markets traded in-play where the result is known at the time of suspension will be settled on the basis of that result.
- If markets are not traded in-play or the result is not known at the time of suspension then, in the case of suspension, all bets will be void, unless individual rules for that sport state otherwise.
- Suspension is defined as the game being halted and not finished. For all suspended markets, individual sport rules for wager settlement will apply.
4.3 POSTPONEMENT
- Subject to any specific sports rule to the contrary, where an event which is scheduled to be completed within one day is not completed within 24 hours of the day on which it was scheduled to be completed, all bets on that event shall be void.
- Where an event which is scheduled to be completed over a period of two or more days is not completed within three months of the day on which it was scheduled to be completed, all bets on that event shall be void. All bets placed after the last completed action in the event will be void.
- For the avoidance of doubt, where an event is completed on the day scheduled for completion, but at a later time than scheduled, that does not affect the settlement of any bet on that event.
4.4 PARTICIPATION
- Any bet, whether open or closed, shall be void where: (i) the bet is placed on a participant who takes no part in the subject event; or (ii) the bet is placed on a participant who takes no further part in the subject event after the bet is placed.
- If the odds or proposition of a wager changes while the patron is placing the wager, the patron will receive a pop-up message on screen informing them that the wager was rejected due to the change of odds or proposition. The patron then may resubmit a new wager at the updated odds or proposition.
4.5 BETS ARE PLACED ON FUTURE EVENTS
- Any bet placed when the price is based on an inaccurate score ‘so far’ may be re-rated so that it operates as a bet on the future. This means that, for instance, where a market is made in “Total Points” for an NFL game –on over 38, under 36 on the basis of no points at that stage, and where there has in fact been one touchdown, any bet at that price is adjusted so it becomes a bet at over 46, under 44. This re-rating will always reflect the real impact of amending an inaccurate score ‘so far’. The above provision is subject to our overriding discretion to void any bet made on the basis of incorrect information.
- All bets should be bets on future events whose outcome is yet to be determined. If for whatever reason a bet is placed on an event whose outcome is capable of being known at the time at which the bet is being placed, the bet can be voided at our absolute discretion (whether the outcome is in fact known to the client or not).
- PointsBet also reserves the absolute right to void any bet placed on a market on an event after that event has begun, unless PointsBet is quoting prices on that particular market in-play, or the bet is placed during an interval in which the prices have been updated.
- PointsBet further reserves the absolute right to void any bet placed on an obvious error, defined as any wager which is on an outcome that is already known or at a price that is unambiguously incorrect and verifiable by comparison to alternative market prices. Once a bet has been submitted, the odds of a client’s bet will not be changed. However, PointsBet retains the absolute right to reject or modify the stake of a client’s bet prior to acceptance.
4.6 THE RESULT
- Unless otherwise stated, all settlements are based on the results and statistics provided by the relevant league governing body.
- The official result is final for settlement purposes except where specific rules state the contrary. The official result will be determined according to our reasonable opinion; such opinion being formed by reference to all publicly available evidence. Refer to the “Individual Sports Rules Policy” for more information about results.
- Where in our reasonable judgement no official result is available, the result will be determined by an independent authority whose verdict shall be final for all purposes, or otherwise determined in accordance with our reasonable opinion, such opinion to be formed by reference to all available evidence.
- Bets will provisionally be settled by reference to all available evidence, but if the result which is determined as set out above differs from the result used for provisional settlement, settlement may be retrospectively adjusted so as to reflect the result so determined. Final settlement of bets will occur as follows:
- Bets on markets scheduled to be completed within one day will be finally settled within three days of the day on which the underlying event is completed;
- Bets on markets scheduled to be completed over a period of two or more days will be finally settled as soon as is practicable after the underlying event is completed
4.7 PERIODS OF TIME
- Rules on bets on an individual event involving injury time and extra time vary for individual sports. For specific rules, please refer to the Individual Sports Rules Policy.
- Unless otherwise stated in the Individual Sports Rules Policy, wagers contingent on a specific timestamp (e.g. a player to score in the first ten minutes of a match) will be settled in accordance with the given league's official timestamp.
- In cases where the given league's official timestamp is unavailable, the blowing of the whistle immediately following the ball crossing the line in Football, or being touched down in Rugby or American Football, will be deemed to be the time of the occurrence of the event, notwithstanding any subsequent referral of the decision by the referee to a third party for confirmation or adjudication, as long as the event is confirmed.
4.8 NON-MAINSTREAM MARKETS; UNUSUAL SITUATIONS & SPECIAL MARKETS
- Markets may be made: (i) in sports that we do not regularly cover; and (ii) may also be offered as “Specials” on individual sports events on which we would offer our usual range of markets in the normal course of business.
- In respect to all of the above, situations inevitably will arise from time to time which have not been specifically addressed herein. Such markets will be settled in accordance with standard industry practice and at the sole discretion of management. The market info for such markets will include clear rules for how the market will be resulted.
4.9 MARKETS INVOLVING STIPULATIONS
- Certain markets involve stipulations which must be met if the market is to stand, e.g. that a batsman whose runs in a test series are being traded must play two tests. Where the stipulation or stipulations is/are not met, any bet on that market shall be void.
4.10 MEMBER’S RESPONSIBILITY
- The client must make himself aware of all conditions, rules and stipulations affecting any market in which the client wishes to bet. Our staff will be pleased to answer any enquiry put to them, and the client will be deemed to know of any condition, rule or stipulation which would have been revealed by such enquiry.
- PointsBet shall investigate any patron complaint and provide a response to the patron within ten (10) calendar days. Any unresolved complaint regarding patron accounts, settlement of wagers, or illegal activity, shall be referred to the relevant regulatory body. A complaint can be submitted in writing to PointsBet via our Live Chat function or by emailing customercare@pointsbet.com.
4.11 LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
- All information is supplied in good faith, and we shall have no liability whatsoever for any error or inaccuracy in information so supplied, including any game scores displayed on site.
4.12 PARTICULAR RULES FOR PARTICULAR MARKETS
- The above conditions, and the Individual Sports Rules Policy, may from time to time be displaced by rules and stipulations applied to particular markets or types of markets. Where this is the case we will detail such variation in the “General Sports Rules”, “Individual Sports Rules” or “Special Market Rules”.
4.13 DISQUALIFICATION
- Where a bet is offered about the performance of participants in an event, and one or more of the participants are disqualified, for the purposes of settlement of the bet the disqualified participant will be considered to have progressed further in the event than all those eliminated from the event prior to his or her disqualification, and will be deemed to have finished last of those still competing in the event. For the avoidance of doubt, disqualification will be considered to have taken place at the time when the incident occurred which caused disqualification and not at the time of the participant’s removal from the event.
4.14 DEAD HEAT RULE
- A “dead heat” occurs when two or more selections are placed in the same position after the final results have been given from a specific event. In the event of a draw, where such an option was not offered for betting purposes, the return is calculated by dividing the return (which would be payable if the winning selection were not involved in a dead heat, tie or draw) by the number of selections involved in the dead heat, tie or draw.
4.15 PUSH RULE
- Unless otherwise stated, in a two-way market that involves a flat line or total, if the line or total lands exactly on the specified number, the bet will be a “push”. In the event of a push, the bet will be void and the stake will be returned. For example, if the line is Carolina Panthers -3 versus the Tampa Buccaneers, and the Panthers win 20-17, the bet will be refunded because the Panthers won by exactly 3 points. For the avoidance of doubt, this does not apply to markets with more than two selections.
4.16 MISSPELLING OF SELECTION NAME
- If the name of a selection is misspelled, all bets will stand if it is obvious, reasonably practicable or within reason to assume that the misspelled player name refers to the correct player, e.g. anglicisation of non-English names.
4.17 ENHANCED MATCH BETTING
- Where a match bet is offered which awards a certain number of points to a participant for winning the match, and extra points for the margin of victory, the maximum margin of victory will be considered to be that which would be reached if one participant won every constituent of the match, unless stated otherwise in the rules for that particular sport. Maximum win multiplier levels for these enhanced match bets will be consistent with the Individual Sports Rules (note that, for some sports, match bet markets will have pre-set maximum and minimum win multiplier levels in order to control volatility in extraordinary situations, thereby keeping it in line with what might be considered more usual).
4.18 UNEQUIVOCALLY DETERMINED
-
In many cases, markets will be still be resulted if an event is called off where the result is unequivocally determined. A result is unequivocally determined when:
- The market has already had its result decided; or
- if the event were completed in its entirety, the outcome of the relevant bet would have been guaranteed. For example, if a customer places a bet on over 18.5 total match games in a tennis match and a retirement occurs with the score line 7-6 5-0, this bet will be deemed a winner as should the match have reached its natural conclusion, it was guaranteed to reach at least 19 total match games.
- For the avoidance of doubt, where it is possible for the market to have a negative result, for example player rushing yards in an NFL match, the market cannot be unequivocally determined.
4.19 DESTINATION MARKETS
- All destination markets, including trade, free agency, unretirement, are action only if all of the player requirements are met.
- Each player must be listed on the official team roster for the start of the sport’s regular season.
- Bets will be void if any player requirement is not met.
- PointsBet reserves the right to remove these markets at any time. All wagers accepted prior to removal will stand.
4.20 METHOD FOR CALCULATION AND PAYMENT OF WAGES
- Winning wagers will be paid out in accordance with a decimal representation of the price that was accepted at the time of the bet, multiplied by the stake, less any deductions that may apply due to the “Dead Heat Rule”. Where a push applies (bets being refunded), then the stake is instead returned in full to the customer. With respect to parlay bets, the product of the price for each leg is used to calculate the overall price to be used for calculation of the winnings. Where a pushed leg exists as part of a parlay, the overall price of the parlay will be recalculated excluding that leg.
- “Same Game Multi” - if one or more legs of a Same Game Multi is voided, the Same Game Multi will be cancelled and the stake refunded.
-
Where a customer uses prices displayed as “American Odds”, they are converted to decimal using the following formula:
- For POSITIVE (+) American Odds, decimal odds = (American Odds+100) /100, for example +460 has a decimal equivalent of 5.60.
- For NEGATIVE (-) American Odds, decimal odds = 1+(100 / (-1*American Odds)), for example -105 has a Decimal equivalent of 1.9524.
4.21 METHODS OF FUNDING A WAGER
- The two methods of funding a wager are: a) cash in account, and b) bonus bets.
-
Patrons can add cash to their account via the following methods:
- Online Banking (Interac and Trustly)
- Credit/Debit card
4.22 UNEXPECTED EVENTS AND OTHER CHANGES
- In the event of an unexpected event or other event beyond the control of PointsBet such as an epidemic, flood, fire, earthquake, element of nature, act of God, act of war, terrorism, or other cause of disruption not mentioned which prevents a sporting event or events from taking place, PointsBet may, at its discretion, void, cancel, or adjust any and all markets related to the event.
- The impact of the above on any event includes without limitation:
- Any reduction in the number of games or matches in a season
- Any change in the length of a game or match
- Any material change to the format of a game or match
- Any change in location to a game or match
-
Season Long Futures Bets
- Bets on season long futures will be settled on official results provided by the league. All scheduled games must be played within the season for bets to stand, unless the outcome has been unequivocally determined. Any forfeits will be considered an official result in line with league policies.
4.23 WAGERS PLACED “TO WIN”
- Wagers requested “To Win” will automatically offer a stake of the requirement amount needed to win the requested amount at the specified odds.
- Client is responsible for verifying the accuracy of the amount wagered and that the bet is correctly configured to return the desired amount.
4.24 ACCEPTANCE OF WAGERS
- All wagers are listed at posted odds. If odds change on a wager while client is placing a bet, client will have the option to accept the new odds or not place a wager.
- Clients can choose to auto accept price changes by going to settings within the bet slip.
4.25 INDIVIDUAL SPORT RULES
- Please see our Individual Sports Rules Policy for how PointsBet will settle situations specific to each sporting event.

The starting side is considered set once the first ball of the match is bowled.
- Player Performance Markets - 1 run = 1 point, 1 wicket = 20 points, 1 catch = 10 points and 1 stumping = 25 points, where points keep accumulating in the case of multiples of these events occurring. Run outs do not count toward the player performance market. The market is settled if a player is in the starting 11, irrespective of if they bat or bowl. Bets are void if the relevant player is not in the starting 11, even if activated as a concussion replacement or X-factor Player substitute.
- Method of dismissal bets are void if a batsman finishes the innings not out. “Other” refers to any of the ten methods of dismissal that are not present as one of the other outcomes in the market. If the market has reference to a specific fielder catching the ball, such as caught and bowled or caught behind (by the wicketkeeper), the caught method of dismissal excludes these fielders for the purposes of the market.
- First Player Dismissed - Both players must open the batting for bets to stand.
- Batsman retirement and not outs - A batsman retirement (including concussion substitute) does not count as a wicket. All markets that relate to a dismissal, except “next man out”, carry over to the next partnership. Should a batsman remain not out or retire hurt at the end of an innings, the market is settled with what the batsman has accumulated up to that point. Method of dismissal bets for a specific player are void if a player is retired hurt or remains not out.

- In Sheffield Shield, Plunket Shield matches, the match winner is a two-way market, where in the case of a drawn match, the market will be settled for the team that gathered the most competition ladder points during the match.
- If a market does not specify whether it is for the first innings, second innings or the match in the name or the event information, it relates to the first innings of the match, such as “Team Top Bowler” or “Team Top Batsman” market, unless the first innings in question have already concluded, and it refers to the second innings. Player Performance markets for Test Matches refer to the test match in its entirety.
- A third innings must be played for all markets, excluding markets relating to the match result, to stand, unless the result of the bet has been unequivocally determined.
Limited Overs Matches
- ‘Reduction’ and other similar terms refer to the reduction of overs/playing time in a match or innings due to external factors (e.g. weather, power outage, natural disaster, etc). A reduction does not include an innings ending due to declarations, getting bowled out or reaching the target score. A reduction of overs may cause a market/bet to be void unless the result of the bet has been unequivocally determined prior to the reduction. Different markets have different rules regarding the required minimum number of reduced overs for bets to be void. The number of required overs reduced in either innings for listed markets to be void, unless the result of the bet has been unequivocally determined prior to the required reduction of overs:
-
Any reduction of overs:
- Total Match/Team Runs/Fours/Sixes/Boundaries related markets
- Most Fours/Sixes/Boundaries
- Will There Be A Fifty/Century In The Match/By Team?
- Highest 1st 6/15/X Overs Score
- 6 Overs Line

- Reduction of more than 2 overs for Twenty20 matches or 5 overs for 50 over One Day matches in either innings:
- Player Run/Fours/Sixes/Boundaries/Wickets related markets
- Player Total Runs/Fours/Sixes/Boundaries
- Player To Score/Hit X Runs/Sixes/Fours/Boundaries
- Player Runs/Fours/Sixes/Boundaries Matchups

- Matchline
- Reduction of more than 5 overs for Twenty20 matches or 25 overs for 50 over One Day matches for either innings:
- Top Match/Team Runscorer/Wicket Taker related markets
If a reduction of overs impacts a market that is not listed above, we reserve the right to void markets where appropriate within reason.
- If a Super Over, Bowl-Off of any official tiebreaker method is used in the match to give an official victory to either team in the match, the match result will be settled on the victor of this tiebreaker method. The runs and wickets in these super overs are not included in the settlement of any market and this tiebreaker method is used for the match result only. If there is no tiebreaker method used, and the match is officially declared tied, the match result will be settled as a dead heat. If the match is otherwise abandoned without a winner, the match is void.
- Match Line (Spread Betting): If the winning team is batting second and wins by X wickets, irrespective of balls remaining, the market is settled in 10 multiplied by the number of wickets won by. If the team batting first wins, the market is settled by the amount of runs they won by.
- If the Duckworth-Lewis or similar method is used for calculating the victor, the market will be settled as such: if a team successfully chases down a revised total, or an innings reaches its natural conclusion through an exhaustion of the revised overs or the team being bowled out, the market will be settled on the margin of victory by runs or wickets as per the above rules. However, if the minimum overs for each innings has been reached and the final innings has not reached its natural conclusion, the market will be settled according to the second innings score against the official “par” score, as it applies to the match result. For example, if the second innings team is chasing 250 and they are 5/199 after 40 overs when rain ends the game, they might be 18 runs ahead of the par score at the time and the match line will be settled at 18. If the result of the match is a tie or decided by a super over or any other official tie breaker, the match line will be settled at zero.
- 6/X Overs Line (Spread Betting): Both teams must play the scheduled number of overs for the bet to stand.
Long Term Markets, Futures, and Outrights
- Unless otherwise stated, bets on player statistics include statistics accrued in finals matches. Unless otherwise stipulated in the information for the market, the market is an all-in market. In cases of head-to-head player markets or similar markets, a minimum number of games must be played for each player, which is stipulated in the information copy for that market. If no minimum number of games is stipulated, each player must play in at least 50% of the scheduled games for bets to stand.
- For series correct score markets, should a limited-overs game have no result, the outcomes that were still possible should that game have a result will be settled as a dead heat, and all other outcomes would be settled as losses. For example, in a three-match series, if the score is 1-1 with one no result, each team winning 2-1 will be settled as a dead heat with the 3-0 results settled as losses. For “Test Series”, tied matches are counted as a draw in this market.
- Specific stipulations and allocations to these Long-Term Markets may be added in the market information found by clicking the ‘i’. This may include stipulations of a minimum number of games required for the player or if the market refers to totals or averages. In the event of a postponed event all bets stand.

Even if three or more contestants take part such a play-off has the sole purpose of deciding the winner of the tournament and the relative finishing positions of unsuccessful contestants are not affected. - Finishing positions - Finishing position is decided by the result posted by the governing body of that tournament (i.e. PGA Tour, European Tour). If a player finishes in a tie for a position Dead Heat Rules will apply (e.g. 3 way tie for 10th will mean all 3 players will be resulted at 11th Place). If a player is disqualified, retires injured, or withdraws they will be deemed to have finished last. Players must complete 1 hole or more for bets to stand.
- 72-hole Line handicap betting - If your player misses the cut, he/she is automatically deemed a loser. For a non-runner, deductions may apply. For result, take the handicap away from the player’s final score (i.e. Day shoots a total of 284 for tournament - 4 shots, net total score on handicap is 280). Should the tournament be reduced to 36 holes or less then all bets on this market will be void. If a player is disqualified/withdraws during the tournament bets will be deemed a loser.
- Matchplay - In the event of neither player completing the match, all bets on the match shall be void. Bets on a match involving a player who, for whatever reason, takes no further part in a tournament following the placing of the bet shall be void. Handicaps
- For deciding results on fixed price handicap markets, a number of goals (or half goals) is added to, or subtracted from, your selection. The handicap values assigned to the handicap draw option will always apply to the home team.
- The handicap is applied to the result of the relevant period and the team with the most goals after the handicap has been applied will be the winner. Handicap markets are settled on the score after normal time plus any additional injury time added. Extra time, golden goal and penalty shootouts are not included.
Example: Team A -2, Handicap Draw -2, Team B +2
If Team A wins by exactly 3 or more goals, Team A -2 is the winning selection.
If Team A wins by exactly 2 goals, Handicap Draw is the winning selection since after the handicap is applied, the match has ended in a draw.
If Team A wins by exactly 1 goal, the match is drawn, or Team B wins the match by any margin Team B +2 is the winning selection.
- Whole ball Asian handicap (e.g., Team A -0, Team A -1.0, Team A -2.0.) The handicap is applied to the final result of the match and the team with the most goals after the handicap has been applied will be the winner. If the number of goals for each team are level after the handicap has been applied, it will result in a push with the stake being returned.
- Half ball Asian handicaps (e.g. Team A -0.5, Team A -1.5, Team A -2.5) The handicap is applied to the final result of the match and the team with the most goals after the handicap has been applied will be the winner.
Example: Team A -1.5, Team B +1.5
If Team A wins by two or more goals all bets on Team A will be winners and bets on Team B will be losers.
If Team A wins by exactly one goal, the match ends in a draw or Team B wins the match all bets on Team B will be winners and bets on Team A will be losers.
- Split ball Asian handicaps (e.g., Team A -0 & -0.5, Team A -0.5 & -1.0, Team A -1.0 & -1.5)
A split ball handicap is where the level of favouritism is between a half ball and a whole ball. In this case, your stake is being split equally between the whole ball and half ball handicaps.
Example: Team A -1.0 & -1.5, Team B +1.0 & +1.5
If you place a $100 bet on Team A -1.0 & -1.5 your bet is split into two $50 bets. The first bet is on the Whole Ball Handicap (Team A -1.0) and the second bet is on the Half Ball Handicap (Team A -1.5).
If Team A wins by two or more goals all bets on Team A will be winners and bets on Team B will be losers.
If Team A wins by exactly one goal the stake on Team A -1.0 will be refunded and the stake on Team A -1.5 will be a loser. The stake on Team B +1.0 will be refunded and the stake on Team B +1.5 will be a winner.
If the match ends in a draw or Team B wins the match all bets on Team B will be winners and bets on Team A will be losers.

BET TYPE/PRODUCTS
- Fixed odds are the odds received at time of placement. Fixed odds are available on the PointsBet website and may be subject to deductions where there is a late scratching. Once confirmed, fixed odds are not subject to fluctuation.
- Multi/All Up Bets are a combination of numerous single bets which multiply the individual odds creating the total dividend (other than for a Single Game Parlay). PointsBet accepts multiples from 2-20 leg. The maximum dividend for this product is $200,000. Multiples cannot be placed on dependent or correlated events (other than for a Single Game Parlay). PointsBet reserves the right to void and refund a bet if legs are related in a multiple. Single Game Parlay odds are calculated based on the correlation of each leg within the single game parlay to determine the final odds.
- All Multi payouts are subject to the PointsBet “Betting Limits”.
- Winning parlays are paid on the accumulated product of selections. For example, a winning bet for selection 1 at +300 and selection 2 at +400 results in a final dividend of +1900. Single Game Parlays are paid based on the correlation of each leg within the single game parlay to determine the final dividends.
- In the event of an abandoned event, all bets will stand with the abandoned leg excluded from the parlay. However, if one or more legs of a Single Game Parlay is voided, the Same Game Multi will be cancelled and the stake refunded. In the event of a dead heat in one or more selections in a parlay, standard Dead Heat Rules apply. In cases of a push where a single fixed odds bet would be refunded, Single Game Parlay legs impacted by a push would instead be paid out as winning legs.
